‘Little’ Megan

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Megan goes to the same school as my young fella. She’s also his cousin and he thinks she’s great. And of course, he’s right. She is great! But when Megan started school, there was already a Megan in his classroom, so when he talked about her he referred to her as ‘little’ Megan and I can’t seem to stop myself calling her that now too, even though she’s not quite so little any more. Here’s a few pics we took with Megan and her family the other day…

Nestors Low Res (7 of 37)

This is Lily, Megan’s cocker spaniel, who’s nearly as cute as her owner…but not quite.

The Nestor clan; the perfect mixture of Ireland and Norway (ya did good there Beano!).

I hope you have a fabulous time in France this summer Sophie, you lucky thing. Wish i was going. Ye have fierce cool uncles in that family altogether so ye do!

There is a debate as to whether Sammy the spaniel belongs to Oisin or his mam but Oisin does a great job training him, with a little help from Uncle Noel. (Noel – i’m available to take photos of those boxers any time btw!)

What could be a better present than your very own puppy to buy yourself with your communion money? Can’t think of one…Great choice Megan!

A quick change and off to Abbeyknockmoy with us for a few special photos of Megan in her communion dress. Well, not a terribly quick change but hey, choice of shoes is very important to us girls, right Megan?

As Lily grabs the lead we wondered who was walking who. Cute. I think this is my favourite of the day.

I brought my young assistant on the shoot with me but he spent more time trying to get INTO the photos than assisting…i may have to review his contract ;)

Thanks to all the Nestors and especially ‘little’ Megan for being such a great family to photograph. Maj x

Princess Mia

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

Mia is the only niece after a long line of nephews, so she is a teenchy weenchy bit special. I was part of the celebration on her First Holy Communion Day a few weeks ago, being aunty on the day and not photographer (my new six inch heels *drool* just weren’t gonna work with the camera!) Besides we like to do it a little differently…..

Mia-2-2

So… Mia and i got all funked up and set off on our ‘alternative’ communion photoshoot.

Mia-11

We didn’t get far we when realised we had gone ever so slightly wrong, oops. Yes, in true Lola fashion, i got lost in Dunmore and yes, i used to live there. Mia resorted to playing with the compass on the iPhone, hint or wha?!

Now, i was told Mia wasn’t too keen on being in front of the camera,WELL….she could’ve fooled me! No seriously, lots and adults and children freeze in front of the camera(i know i do) but we do have lots of little tricks up our sleeves to help remove this awkwardness and banish that infamous ‘photo-face’ we keep harping on about.

Mia ended up having great fun during the shoot…

She got to dress up…

feed the cows *ahem*and no, these over eager cows weren’t part of the plan, but were mad for Mia’s daisies.

she ran, jumped, climbed, climbed some more…

Mia-24

Mia wasn’t a bit precious about the dress which is one of the many reasons we like to do the shoot on another day.

On the way home Mia said to me ‘you’re famous ya know!’ ‘why’ says I, ‘Cause you’re on google ‘ (how adorable!)

Now Mia you’re gonna be famous too!

Matthew’s First Holy Communion

Mattie Low Res (5 of 211)

Rain was forecast so we anxiously looked out the window in the morning to see if it had arrived. Not yet. Phew. We headed a half a mile out the road to the “messy” garage as Matthew calls it – being acutely mindful that none of this “mess” should end up on the child before he got to the church. Mattie’s mammy would not be happy. Err…mind the motor oil there Matthew good lad.

Jelly babies were munched on the way (*ssshhhh*!) and the Matthew’s favourite song blared out coincidentally on the radio…“I need dollars baby, dollars are what i neeeed. I need dollars baby…” Great form. And it’s written all over his gorgeous little face.

Trying to get Matt not to smile is the tricky thing. This guy could smile for Ireland. Such a cutie. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect little gentleman to photograph.

It hardly seems that long ago since Christopher’s communion day. Now Chris is a handsome young man ready to start his teenage adventure. Oh but they do grow up so fast.

This year it was Matthew’s turn, so a suitably cool location had to be sought out to get super cool photos like his big brother. No pressure then (God only knows what we’ll have to come up with for “baby” David when his time comes in a couple of years, but it’d better be good).

Oh, many’s the heart will surely get broken by these sweethearts. Girls of Munster watch out! Christopher, Matthew and David – you’re the the bestest! <3

* If you didn’t get any nice photos of your little darlings on their communion day this year, don’t despair…email us to book a session. It’s way better to do it afterwards so everybody has more time and you’re not afraid of getting the outfit dirty. You can even bring a change of clothes and make a casual family portrait session out of it at the same time.

Holy Communion…Fotissima Stylie

Brianna-7

Brianna-21

We get asked a lot do we do Communion Portraits. It’s a FAQ doncha know. Well the answer to that is of course ‘Yes. We do. We do do.’ How and ever! We dont stand around outside the church and snap shot each child as they emerge or indeed pose them all on the altar. No. That, we don’t do. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Nothing at all in fact. It’s just not our style. So, if you like our style, then you might like to try it our way. If you still prefer the other way then that’s just fine with us too. No offence taken like. Coz that’s just the kinda gurls we are here at Fotissima. To each their own.

We like to wait til all the fuss is over. it can be a few days or a few weeks later. There are sooo many other things that need to be thought about on the day of a First Holy Communion before the photos. You know there is. And that’s ok. Just like on the day of a wedding (only ever so slightly LESS things). All these things are usually written all over a person’s photo face, even though they may not be aware of it. So. Let’s get all that out of the way then. And when you’ve got nothing else to be fretting over. When you want to have some fun with a photo shoot. When you’re not bothered about the pristine condition of the clothes. When you want to do something ‘Arty’. Who you gonna call? Yes. Lola + Maj.

We can turn it into a family photo shoot and get everyone involved. You can bring a change of clothes for a more casual look too. Or make it all about the Comunicant. Whatever you prefer. The adults normally don’t like to get in on the act “Oh I HATE having my photo taken!” but are very glad they did afterwards. Very, we tells ye. Very.

Lately we had the very great pleasure of photographing Brianna in her Communion dress. She’s our kinda kid is Brianna. When we were waiting to meet her we had already commented on her funky hat and converse boots without realising she was the little girl we were to be shooting. She was dead cool and instinctively knew what to do. Kids can be so much better in front of the camera than adults. So less self-concious God bless them. Mammy Aisling was a bit reluctant to be in any of the photos but just imagine how precious these photos will be in a few short years. Priceless. And just look how well Aisling’s *look* works in this photo…the striking hair, the dangly earrings, the glasses…Tome. We’re loving it Ais. Loving it.
