Finbar and Jane : The Wedding

Finbar + Jane LRes (1 of 94)

You should have seen our eyes light up at the pre-wedding shoot when Jane told us she wasn’t wearing a long dress. We simultaneously did a double take. Yes, we do terribly annoying things like finishing each others’ sentences now too. We are spending waaaay too much time together as Fotissima. But anyways, we were so happy to finally have bride in a shorter dress. How long we’ve been waiting…and yes, it was worth it. Jane had a simple, yet super-chic elegance as close to Princess Grace as a girl could get. So many yummy photos from this wedding it took ages to pick a few faves for the blogissima.

Fair play to Jane for not minding when Lola asked her to sit on the ground. We promise the dress didn’t suffer. Kinda worth it. Not a very high percentage of the brides passing through Dromoland will have tried it we’d hazard a guess. Walled gardens can be a bit stuffy and traditional if you let them.

The Further Bofin Adventures of Lola + Maj…

Lola-1-24

Sure the summer wouldn’t be the same without an auld trip out to Inisbofin to photograph a wedding. Each one of them is unique, as all weddings are, but there’s just something about the island…you never quite know what it is going to throw at you.

The last time it was gale force winds and the unforgettable shots up at the lighthouse with a very brave Aileen + Sean (Let us not speak of the photographers being the last ones to leave the dance floor when the sun was well up. No. Let us not). The time before that it was Maeve + Rory *nostalgic sigh* strolling along a beach that looked like something straight out of a travel brochure for French Polynesia.

On the ferry back last summer, as Maj turned a deeper shade of green with each swell of the waves, a pact was made never to do another wedding “out there” again.

Then. Along comes Michael + Trish. Sure what could we say when they didn’t take no for an answer and were just so darn nice?! So. Yes. There we were again in Cleggan for the by-now-obligatory fry before the half eleven ferry. And so began another Bofin Adventure…

Were we glad we went? Oh My God Yes. The photos are definitely some of our very very favourites and the album is to-drool-over. The ratio of clouds to blue skies couldn’t possibly have been any closer to perfect and Michael + Trish just look gorgeous in the midst of all that sand and sea and boats and island-y-ness.

Yes, us Fotissima Chicks and The Bofin are all loved-up once again. But will we be venturing across the waves once more? Hmmmm. That remains to be seen.

*By the way. Both our previous Bofin couples are Mammys and Daddys now. Yay! Congratulations all ’round. There could be something in the air out there. Or the water. Or somethin’. Just sayin’…be careful out there. Ya know.*

Orla + Ger

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

‘Tis lovely on the morning of a wedding not to be facing into a journey before a day on your feet with a heavy camera. Orla is a Tuam girl so we only had to go around the corner to meet up with our Bride and Groom. That’s the way we work it; one of us goes to the Bride’s house (or wherever they are getting ready…) and the other to the Groom;and we take it in turns so that the one who photographs the Bride is the one who edits the pics and designs the album. It has just kinda evolved like that and it seems to work for us.

From the start we believed in getting the “byes” involved in the photography too, as some of the best shots are to be got capturing the craic with the lads beforehand. It also makes for a more balanced album, where it’s not just all about the Bride. It’s nice too at the wedding viewing for the couple to see what was going on in the other camp while they were getting ready, as we play the photos in chronological order.

The talented Sandra Gillen was on make-up duty that morning. Some of you may remember her from a Rock the Frock session we did last year – talented AND fabulous!

Cloonacauneen Castle with Edel + Jonathan

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

We seemed to have travelled to photograph cool weddings in castles up and down the country but this was our first time in nearby Cloonacauneen Castle, which is only a few miles from our hometown Tuam, in Co. Galway. Funnily enough we were to be there the following week again with Catherine and Dave. Isn’t it always the way! ‘Tis lovely in there. All cosy and castley like. Nice.

This is the Bridal Suite. Look at that for a four poster. Sumptuous velvety fabric fit for a queen we tells ye and doesn’t Edel look quite at home there all the same. This is one of our favourites from the day. Gorgeous.

Mind you Jonathan scrubbed up rather well himself on the day…

Claire & Shane

Lola--7

The cool thing about Claire is that she is completely unaware of how gorgeous she is. That’s what makes her our kinda gal. When she sees herself in some of these photos she is going to be blown away (hurry back from them foreign parts girl)…we just know she is. C’mon like, just look at them big brown eyes! Shane compliments Claire perfectly in his quiet, strong way. Their day was classy while avoiding any fuss or hype. Little things mean a lot. Sometimes we are all guilty of forgetting that. Aaaaand… *bonus* …We even managed to call Claire: ‘Claire’ and Roisin: ‘Roisin’ on the day. Pheee-ew! (Roisin being the cute dawg for those of ye who missed that one)

Lola--2

The talented Caroline at the Mac counter in Brown Thomas did the make-up. Lovin’ the earrings there Caroline!

Clodagh & Eddie’s Bright Bright Sunshiney Day

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Clodagh & Eddie’s day went pretty much as we expected it to; all calm and chilled out and full of such warmth and good wishes for this lovely couple. We wondered were we slightly biased since we know Clodagh for a while and it was in our local cathedral in Tuam, Co. Galway…but no, these two are simply gorgeous. Fact.

Sandra Mullen, MAC makeup artist, was on duty at Clodagh’s house making everyone beautiful and telling the odd joke too along the way. Lola couldn’t resist a pic with Clodagh’s eye-catching mirror…well, if it’s good enough for Philip Treacy!

Clodagh & Eddie-25

And sure how many grooms would be so cool as to humour the photographer  and agree to pose in front of some cows. Not to mind chuckle and say ‘Yes, Maj. You can even put THAT one in the blog!’. Oh good man Ed. Love it.

Clodagh & Eddie-35

Clodagh & Eddie-128

After the church off we all went to Knockranney House Hotel in Westport. But not before a slight detour out to Bertra Beach in Muirisk, Co. Mayo.

Clodagh & Eddie-164

It looks like an idyllic day for a stroll on the beach but we can tell ye that the wind nearly blew us all clean off the coast there at one point. It did give an obligingly beautiful flow to Clodagh’s dress there though…who needs a wind machine eh.

GO-ing to the CA-stle, and they’re, GO-ing to get MA-a-A-ried

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Armed with our AA route planner we hit the road for for Kilronan Castle, Co. Roscommon. So…Market Street…in Tuam? We couldn’t be lost already…why can’t they just say ‘The Square’?! Continue forward onto Bishop Street? Ah that’s easy…and we’re off.

We can report that many’s the sat nav got befuddled along the twisting turning winding roads of Galway and…Roscommon, passing through little towns like Cloonfad and Garranlahan…and less familiar ones like Lisserdrea and Knockvicar (Le trou du cou du monde quoi or what). We only took a small detour through Ballaghadereen. Not too bad (for headless chickens).

So, we left a little early to check out possible locations for Caroline and Barry’s wedding photos. We stopped just before the castle at the edge of the lake and hopped  out of the car for a sconce. Lovely little pier. Castle in the distance. Tall reeds, swans, not so much as a ripple on the water and even some blue sky. We could practically see the canvas on Caroline and Barry’s wall out in Marley. Beautiful.

Best laid plans of Mice and Men…and Women.

Yes yes. It was going to be fabulous. Time for breakfast. We do love our fry on the morning of a wedding…tis a long day as the man says. Now. Time to go see how the girls are getting on.

Ooooo. Bridal suite complete with four poster and all  kinds of loveliness. Great. Jennifer Carney on make-up duty, even better. Go Jenn! Perfect. What could possibly go wrong?! Well! Out of the corner of our eye…surely that was somebody power-hosing the windows?! Nope. That was actually DRIVING rain pelting against the panes. U-oh. Honest-to-God, the weather couldn’t possibly have been any worse.

How and ever! If we do say so ourselves, you can’t tell from these photos what was going on with the wind and the rain outside the walls of the castle. Everyone had a fabulous day and Caroline & Barry fit in quite perfectly to the sumptuous setting. We are so looking forward to seeing the album. It’s going to be gorgggge.

Claire & Shane

Friday, May 14th, 2010

As we waited for Claire & Shane to arrive for their pre-wedding shoot we kind of wistfully remarked how cute the dogs were on our previous shoot and wasn’t it a shame there wasn’t any doggies today. Well! What did we promptly see popping its head up at the back of the approaching Jeep only Roisín the Labrador. Deadly.

Claire & Shane-28

Originally Claire & Shane’s wedding was scheduled to go ahead in Inis Oirr (the smallest of the Aran Islands, for those of you who don’t know). Quite partial as we are to an island wedding – in spite of nearly getting blown off the edge of Inisbofin last time we were there- we were looking forward to this little adventure.

When we first met them, Shane had himself a stripey top on and we (of the over active imaginations) we already envisioning swashbuckling pirate wedding theme complete with shipwrecks and everything (yeah, sorry shane, we know we never actually told you this out loud hehe). Still though, now that we’re going to be on the mainland, we couldn’t actually be going to a better spot because we’ll still have the sea beside us out there in Barna, and tracking down an auld boat or two isn’t beyond the realms of possibility for us either. There is also the added bonus of no sea-sick nightmare return voyage the morning after the wedding for the photographers…euw, flashback!

We went to Tuam’s old railway station again for this set of pics. What on *earth* are we going to do when they open that line again we do ask ourselves, eek?! It suited Claire and Shane’s funky style perfectly and we were only slightly mortified every time we called Claire ‘Roisin’ by mistake, so often were we calling the dog the get her attention. Oops. Sorry Claire. So long as we don’t let it slip on the day of the wedding ’twill be grand!

It was a lovely chilled-out shoot and we know that’s the way the wedding’s going to be too with this cool couple. Thanks you two.

Clodagh & Ed

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

We had such a lovely morning with Clodagh and Ed, having a bit of a stroll about the countryside, a chat and a laugh. We love the way they’re such a laid back couple who are happy to go with the flow and we came away really looking forward to their wedding. There’s going to be a big contingent from our home town there too so that makes it all the more special. Apologies in advance to anyone we know who comes over to us for the chat and we have our heads inside in our cameras…we’re not being snobby, promise, s’just us really concentrating on getting the best photos we can for Clodagh and Ed on the day. We do admit to getting terribly focused (obsessed) for those few hours. We’ll be all chat again afterwards!Clodagh & Ed-71copy1

We’re sure Ed didn’t quite know what to make of all this photoshooting business. ‘Tis far from photoshoots he was reared out there in Milltown sure. But he went along with it so good-naturedly that we think his gentle, easy-going personality really comes through in the photos. Thanks Ed. For being so patient. I mean, tisn’t every day you’re asked to just sit yourself down in the middle of a road, like.

Clodagh & Ed-100

As for Clodagh. Well this photo below shows just what a warm and bubbly person she is. Always ready to smile. Beautiful.

Clodagh & Ed-48

Clodagh & Ed-111 copy

Yes, to smile, or to lie down in the mossy leaf-strewn ground, as you do of a morning! Thanks Clodagh. You are going to be a stunning bride. Roll on the big day.

Rock your frocks off!

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Sandra Gillen became a fan of our Facebook page and innocently remarked one day that she loved our photography so much, it made her feel like taking the wedding dress out and doing it all again, but in a much funkier fashion. Whooosh. We were all over it. Music to our ears a chailín. What are you waiting for?! Get it ON!

So. Take away the pressures of the wedding day and add Lola & Maj’s styling techniques extraordinaire and *voilà!*  you get yourself a fabulous ‘Rock The Frock’ session and a set of the coolest photos you never thought possible. You might even have a bit of craic in the process…it has been known to happen.

Sandra is gorgeous. She got married a few years ago and is quite the busy lady with four small children and a budding Make Up Artistry business-she did her own make-up for the shoot btw; check it OUT; www.skelliemakeup.com. Sandra was game for a laugh and was so patient with us as we made her try out a whole range of different looks to find the perfect ones. Our personal favourite is the ‘Madame Bridget’ look (as coined by Sandra herself when she collapsed laughing at herself in the mirror hehehe!) with the little blue socks and Kurt Geiger shoes. High fashion or WHA’! We think these photos would be at home on the cover of any magazine (ah, well, now come on, not ‘Horse and Hound’ or anything but ye know what we mean). Work it Sandy, we do love these pics!

We chose a location for the photos that you certainly couldn’t set foot in on the ‘real’ day. Gruuun-geeey. We even ventured up the rather dodgy ladder, conscious that we may not be actually able to get back down again without professional help. 999/ Fire Brigade/Speed dial…Just in case. Ah sure, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thanks to the young fella who told us about this secret location when we were doing our research…some of you reading this actually visit this spot on a regular basis we suspect, but don’t worry lads, the secret’s safe with us, and ye’ve made it so cosy…em…in a filthy dirty sort of way like!

It does take a bit of time to create a beautiful set of images such as these but we believe that they are worth every minute of it. Time is something that is in short supply on the ‘Big Day’ though, so why not treat yourself to a ‘Rock The Frock’ session, where it can be all about the photos, and the wedding day can be all about everything else…
