The Lonesome Peacock

I had never heard of before but they say that a peacock will grieve if it loses somebody close to it. Legends do say that the peacock is a symbol of fidelity. Martin lived in the most peaceful little slice of country in County Galway, at the end of a boreen where the grass comes up to meet you. A road less travelled by car, as Martin only ever used a bicycle. He had a peacock for manys the year and the neighbours’ kids would often come to visit and marvel at its amazing feathers. Nobody has seen the peacock raise its majestic plumage since Martin died last year. And he didn’t show them to us when we took ourselves down Martin’s road a few weeks ago on our little adventure. Poor Mister Peacock. Rest in Peace Martin.

Sive, Conan and Dylan regularly bring bread to feed the peacock, always hoping they will see him raise his feathers. Maybe next time…

If you knew Ursula, you’d know that she’s not the posey-posey type of person who you imagine would like getting her photo taken. But she did have one secret wish…which I can’t tell ye obviously, coz it’s a secret like…but suffice it to say that her wish was granted (Fotissima = Fairy Godmothers!) , and it leads me to believe that there must be an awful lot of other mammies out there with the very same wish and they just can’t bring themselves to tell anybody about it. So don’t be afraid girls…let us know if we can help you with your secret wishes… ;)

Conan wasn’t one for standing still so we had to keep coming up with things to do where i might catch a photo of him…throwing hay seemed to work for a few minutes…!

Sive was the perfect little model. Such a sweet girl. I smiled while editing her photos at the cute way she crinkles up her nose when she laughs. Naaaw.

Once again my young assistant slips in front of the camera. *Whoops!* Hard to blame him when the draw of running through the long grass got too much to resist. I’ll have to let him off. This time.

Bye bye Mister Peacock, we hope you feel better soon.

Angelman Syndrome

December 9th, 2011

Meet the very beautiful Clara. If you read today’s Independent you may have seen her there with her mum Sarah Roarty raising awareness alongside Colin Farrell and his son for this rare Angelman Syndrome. Sarah is more well know to us Tuam facebooker folk as TWO (Tuam What’s On!), and is a fantastic ambassador for the town. We had the pleasure of meeting Sarah and her family recently and these are a few of their photos. If you have never heard of Angelman Syndrome please check it out at www.angelmansyndrome.ie. Sarah works tirelessly for this charity trying to raise desperately needed funds for more research. Scientists are tantalizingly close to a breakthrough and a lack of funds stands in the way of Clara and many more people with Angelman Syndrome going on to lead full lives free from disablility. It is impossible not to let this story get to your heart if you spend any time at all with this amazing family. Thanks Sarah xoxo

Welcome Baby Lola!

September 19th, 2011

Baby Lola, our friend Nina’s most gorgeous little girl, arrived into the world just the other day. We were lucky enough to catch a few pics of her while she was still in that very brief and very precious newborn stage. You might even get a glimpse of this adorable bundleen in Shine of Claremorris because Nina (crazyladybutweloveher!) is already back in the Boutique keeping her customers happy. So, welcome to the world Baby Lola. S’nice to meet you (especially for our Lola…who, believe it or not, has never ever met another Lola in all these years…yay!).Baby Lola LRes (1 of 11)

Blustery Hair Shoot…

September 14th, 2011

Not ideal weather for photography on Sunday, most especially for a Hair Shoot where every rib of hair has to be accounted for. U-oh! With a little improvisation and some cool hairdressers and models who were willing to trust us we actually managed to get some shots we are really pleased with…and we now know that multi-storey car parks are not just good places to park your car!

Yourells Low Res-1

It’s funny how word gets around. Anna Forde (co-owner of Yourells in Galway with Carol Joyce) was a bridesmaid at one of our fotissima weddings this summer. Our photo style appealed to their creative eye so Gillian from Yourells ended up contacted us a few weeks ago to arrange a shoot.  Gillian (stylist) and Marie (colourist) have a model each in the Wella Professionals Trend Vision competition in Limerick on today. Best of luck with it girls, hope it went fab!

Well done to the first time models Kate and Orla for looking so darn FIERCE and being so lovely to work with. There was a whole lot of lovliness involved actually. Thanks everyone, we enjoyed our day. If the photos are anything to go by ye have a great shot at that competition. Knock ‘em dead ladies!

Baby Bears!

August 1st, 2011

I’ve known Paddy O’Shea forever. Well, maybe not forever exactly but since about the time when i was actually taller than him, which kinda feels like forever. I could run faster than him then too, although he still vehemently disputes this fact. I was the little girl Tom + Dolie O’Shea never had and was kinda part of the furniture in the O’Shea household amongst the five O’Shea boys for the best part of a decade. Apparently I was wearing my very very favourite Spiderman tee-shirt the first day I turned up in their garden, so Bear tells me! He still lives in the idyllic Glen of Aherlow in County Tipperary where i spent manys the happy tomboy summer, building forts and climbing trees; and where the sun was always shining. Well in my mind it was anyway. And through these beautiful rose-tinted spectacles.

Blog (15 of 26)

If you’ve come across the classic “Effin’ Eddie” GAA match commentary you may have heard of “The Bear” before. Classic stuff. A definite pre-cursor to Th’Unbelievables. He’s been a busy man since then and there’s three “Baby Bears” on the scene now to keep him so. Not to mention taking good care of Missus Bear. I just happened to be passing the other day on one of my flying visits (is it just me or are we all ridiculously over-busy these days?). Marie just happened to mention how she’d like to get me to take some photos of the kids. She threw it out there like…some time; in the future; when you’ve time; when we are ready…and all that. How about now? Says I. Now? Why not, i’ve got the camera in the car. Let’s go, c’mon! So, suddenly, before they knew it, they were all being photographed. Not some time. Now. No time like the present.

Blog (12 of 26)

“Bear” shuns the limelight these days (not that he ever actually sought it!) and didn’t even want to be photographed with the kids. “I’ll drive ye wherever ye want to go. I’ll carry the bags. But ye don’t want me in the photos”. Says he. No Bear, we don’t want you in the photos. Not at all. No way. Sure why would we.

Blog (18 of 26)

Most parents want to stay out of the photos in our family shoots. We respect their wishes and wouldn’t dream of coercing them into anything. Sometimes though, if they get into the odd photo by accident *ahem* then they can be pleasantly surprised with how photogenic they are, especially if they are just being themselves, enjoying some family time. How bad.

Blog (9 of 26)

We took a walk down Riversdale, a place we used to go adventuring as kids. The house is totally overgrown now with nearly three decades-worth of vegetation. It was completely different to how i had imagined it. And not at all suitable for little kids, as it happened, but sure we made the best of it.

Blog (10 of 26)

We certainly wouldn’t be allowing our precious little darlings to be playing in there, as all the dangers that we were blissfully unaware of then are blaringly obvious now; a river, mad cows and an enormous tumbling-down house, to name but a few. Young Niall was most aggrieved that he was forbidden to enter the house. Oh how the tables have turned! *nostalgic sigh*

Blog (16 of 26)

Aoife was the biggest revelation of our mini photo-shoot. Marie didn’t have one nice photo of her and had just assumed that she was unphotogenic or something. Not so. All the photos of Aoife that had ever been taken were simply of her ‘photo-face’, not the real, cute, beautiful little girl that she is. So once we got her to just be herself, this is what we found. GORGEOUSness.

Blog (13 of 26)

The very lovely Aoife O’Shea.

Blog (11 of 26)

What a great little impromptu photo adventure. *Bear hugs* Maj x

Blog (19 of 26)

And in 15 or 20 years time when ‘baby’ Colm is towering over his big sister Aoife, this photo’s going to be priceless, as she catches him up in order to dump him rather abruptly out of the way. *thunk*! Love it, and especially Marie in the background anticipating what’s going to happen, as us mammies do,…’Noooooo”!
