Lola

I have fully embraced the digital darkroom and love experimenting with new ideas and techniques. I'm always trying improve my photography skills and have taken various photography related courses. Every magazine I read, every film I watch I'm deconstructing the images, examining the photography. I strive to be at the cutting edge of all thats happening in the world of photography.

While I love examining the work of contemporary photographers, and after many years of studying the great masters of Art (through which I've developed my own artistic identity) I find most of my inspiration comes from everyday life, my surroundings.

I see the world through artists eyes. Im always composing images in my head (usually to the point of distraction!!). Everywhere I look I draw inspiration. From everyday scenes and objects, to people watching(ok maybe staring!), almost anything can spur an idea for a shot or photoshoot.

I cannot label myself as a particular type of photographer I love all genres of photography. I have a great curiosity and love to use a variety of subject matter in my work. Fotissima gives me the opportunity to explore all forms of photography, fashion, advertising, portraiture, weddings, each having their own significances. The variety of work we do keeps things interesting.

My background in Fine Art has defined the photographer i am, and greatly contributed to my photographic style.

About Lola

I got my first Canon 35mm SLR Camera and a bag of lenses from my grandad when I was 17. It wasnt til a few years later when I went to Art college that I learned how to use it properly. It was film and darkrooms for me back then.

I spent five years in Limerick School of Art & Design. To my surprise I graduated top of my class and with a first class honours degree in Fine Art. I also received an Award from the Revenue Commissioners in recognition of the quality of my work (they've been taking it back off me ever since!!).

I love ALL things creative, and try to develop my skills and knowledge in all disciplines when possible. I have completed CE courses in Fashion design and Fashion illustration in Massachusetts College of Art and Printmaking in Cluine Mhuire Art College Galway.

Photography has always been part of my life as an Artist, as a resource or the art form itself. My passion has always been creating images, whatever the medium. Like Cindy Sherman whose work I was first exposed to many years ago, I draw parallels between painting and photography a LOT!

I love the immediacy of the camera. Although there is nothing more exciting than taking that perfect shot, it's not just about creating the best shot from a formal point of view its about connecting with your subjects and taking shots that are expressive, meaningful and tell a story.
